Below you\u2019ll find everything you need to know about how to take part \u2014 from our community guidelines to how moderation works behind the scenes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our aim is simple: to host conversations that add insight, expertise, personal experience and constructive challenge to the journalism we produce. Our reporters and editors will also drop into comment threads from time to time to answer questions and join the discussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-commenting-guidelines\">Commenting Guidelines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We want debate \u2014 even sharp disagreement \u2014 but we also want a space where people feel able to participate without being shouted down, insulted or misled. To keep conversations productive and respectful, the following types of comments are&nbsp;not allowed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Insults, slurs, abusive language or harassment, including targeted comments about other contributors, public figures or New Statesman staff.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Obscenity, crude language, or attempts to dodge profanity filters&nbsp;(for example, using partial spellings or punctuation to mask swear words).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promotion or encouragement of self-harm or violence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Deliberate misinformation, fabricated claims posed as fact, or conspiracy theories.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Threats, bullying, intimidation or personal attacks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Comments POSTED IN ALL CAPS or other forms of aggressive or disruptive posting styles.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Repeated complaints about moderation decisions&nbsp;or attempts to pressure moderators into approving a comment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spam, excessive posting, or commercial promotion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Impersonation, fraud, or encouragement of illegal or dangerous activity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Posting someone else\u2019s private or identifying information&nbsp;(including doxxing).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sexually explicit, suggestive, or degrading content.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Content that infringes copyright&nbsp;or violates intellectual property rules.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We reserve the right to remove comments that break these rules, derail a conversation, or undermine the purpose of the comments space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-leave-a-comment\">How to Leave a Comment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can comment on any article that has commenting enabled. To take part:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. <strong>Sign in<\/strong>&nbsp;to your New Statesman account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Scroll to the bottom of the article and select&nbsp;the comments section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. Type your comment in the box provided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. Click&nbsp;<strong>\u201cPost comment.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are not logged in, you will not be able to comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-display-names-and-why-we-use-real-names\">Display Names and Why We Use Real Names<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Your comment will appear under the display name linked to your New Statesman account.
